नई उम्मीदें, नए होसलें बुलंद किये हैं तुमने हरदम,
दिखलाया मुझमें विश्वास जब भी खुद पर हुआ है कम,
माँ तू है हमारे जीवन की ऐसी इक जादुई परी,
जो पलक झपकते ही करती है मुश्किल आसान हमारी सारी.
खुद के ग़म को भुलाकर तुने हमको सहारा है दिया,
भंवर में डूबी नईया को भी पार हमेशा तुमने लगाया.
दुआ थी मेरी सिर्फ यही की हर जन्म में मिले तेरा साथ.
न छूटे मेरे हाथों से कभी भी अब ये तेरा हाथ.
गर जो बिछड़े हम कभी भी अब कही इस जीवन में,
आना होगा तुझको फिर से मेरे लिए इस दुनिया में,
चाहे होगा वो कोई भी रिश्ता, दिल से दिल का नाता होगा,
जाना है मैंने अब ये सच की कभी न प्यार ख़त्म होता.
दिया है वचन खुदा ने अब आज मुझको जाकर कहीं,
की चाहे जन्म कितने भी आयें साथ रहेगा तेरा ही.
न चाहूँ मैं और कुछ भी अब खुदा से जीवन में,
दिया है उसने तुझको मुझे, न अब है चाहत कोई मन में.

If you ask almost anyone if they have heard of Zen, the answer is usually yes, but when you ask them what Zen is,the answer usually varies greatly. The word Zen appears in book titles and books are written about experiences where Zen has allegedly played a part. The idea is popular. But the practice of Zen is not so popular, in the sense that few people acually practice Zen - consciously that is.

The fruit of Zen practice is an awareness, a heightened sense of feeling and sensitivity that one develops in doing what comes naturally.

You can consider Zen both as a discipline, a very strict and demanding discipline,and as an attitude, or outlook or approach to life. Zen has no philisophy of its own: it is simply a method of learning, of observing, and of experiencing what you do every day, anyway.

Zen is a philisophy of will power - one forges an iron will and an indomitable spirit. It is based on self-reliance. Profound honesty is required in Zen practice. There is no result in Zen practice. It is the effort you make to improve yourself that is measured.

As one way of practicing Zen, one sits in a cross-legged position. With your hand relaxed, your arms relaxed, your shoulders relaxed, you begin to breathe in a controlled, rhythmic breathing. The breathing is deep, nourishing you with oxygen; your nostrils flare and your abdomen, perhaps for the first time in your life, breathes for you. Thoughts fly through your head.You are admonished to concentrate on your breathing to measure it, feel it, be aware of it. The thoughts increase: the day's activities, your problems, your fears, a million things fly by. You snap back into where you are, and what you are doing. The more you try to concentrate on one thing, the more it slips away. Later, when you become experienced, you will not try to stop your thinking. You will let it stop by itself. You will let it go. You will realize that nothing outside of you causes you trouble or anguish or guilt or doubt. When a thought occurs to you, and you spend time thinking about it, it is said that your mind has stopped at that point. This ''stopping mind'' is the heart of the problem. When your mind ''stops'' to question or decide or judge - when you are concentrating on that, you lose track of what is still going on.

But the flow does not stop when you do. It just passes you right by. When the mind is stopped for too long, it causes you not only to falter, but maybe to lose days in responding to a problem.

The initial concept with which Zen training breaks open your doors to understanding is ''beginner's mind''. School of Zen tells you to learn as ''plain and naive as an infant''.

The mind of an infant is empty; it is fresh. It has no preconceived ideas; it sees things as they are. It is free from the habits of experience and therefore open to all possibilities. The infant has no thoughts of achievement, and makes no demands. It makes no judgements, no distinctions. The infant lives in the absolute present. Above all, because he does not put one before another, the infant is compassionate.

Zen is a practical discipline. It wants you to act now, to experience this moment right now, directly. The effect of such action is to give you the power to cope. That is important in today's world. Furthermore,the resiliency that is developed in one's practice allows for appropriate responses. Coping appropriately is a key concept.

Zen is understanding without words. It is to apprehend the situation clearly and to see it for what it is, and not what you think it is. Reality must be experienced as it is. Does any word or even any thought accurately describe the feeling of being in love, or the heart-stopping fear of imminent death? It is understood by the Zen mind that the senses cannot grasp reality from one viewpoint. When the light goes on, one says, ''the light is on.'' But are you aware of the absence of darkness? Have you considered all sides of the situation, in your observation of it? Zen prapares you to look at this.

They say - If you want to see, see right at once. When you begin to think, you miss ths point.' To know and to act are one and the same. Be natural. Intellectual understanding is not always sufficient to effectively communicate.

Think of any activity that you perform that you are good at. It can be anything - Banking, cooking, tennis, speechmaking, organising. What is it that makes you good at it? Is it your training, or the tools you use? Or is it the experience you have accumulated in doing it? It is all these things in varying degrees, but the missing element is the crucial one. Your attitude, your approach, the sense of confidence, and purpose (no hesitation) you bring to your activity is what people observe when they say you are '' good at it.''

Zen is a practice for life; in Zen first comes the technique, practiced so many times that it is forgotten. Then you begin to use it. It is when you do not think about it anymore that you do it so well. Zen is no more than that. But it is reaching that state that the training is all about. The tennis pro who flies around the court, making impossible shots, does so not because of any superhuman qualities but because he has practiced and practiced, as the dancer has, until the movements are internalised. There is no longer any conscious direction in the movement. When you marvel at the way someone whips up a dinner for ten on short notice, or the way someone makes an impromptu speech, you are marvelling at the same thing - the approach, the confidence, the naturalness of the behaviour. There was no time to prepare, no time to think, no time to hesitate. there you are. ZEN.

Zen is also a social philisophy. A goal of Zen is to realize your potential as a human being. The 'self' is understood not only as an individual, but as a member of the community of individuals (society).
Zen stresses self-perfection, and in so practising, one tends to be more aware of one's place in the world, not in the sense of dedication or preseverance. If you have ever tried really hard to get something, and accomplished it, you know the feeling. It is a sense of self-satisfaction. You carried out your plans. You accomplished your goal. You felt good! But if you can do that yourself, why Zen?

Zen disciplines you to feel that everyday, in everything you do. You become more observant, more sure, and more confident. The effect of this change is to reduce your ego: the more confident you are, the less likely you are to boast or brag. But if your confidence is in only one activity that you perform, your ego (your personal advertising agency) will boost your confidence for you in other ways. All the cheerleading in the world will not help you win the game. If it is you who you have confidence in and not just your skills, if you are satisfied with yourself, you will be humble and quiet and peaceful. You will not have the desire to show off. When you are confident, truly at peace, you are also benevolent. Your ego does not keep you from reaching out to lend a helping hand, or from being compassionate. Your ego is not there to interfere. You do it because you feel like doing it, and there is nothing to stop the feeling.

When you eat, just eat. When you walk, just walk. When you sit, just sit. Your body knows how to do that already. When you play tennis, just play tennis. Approach the situation for what it is, and nothing more: whether you like it or not is irrelevant.

A Zen story illustrates this: Two monks were travelling in the rain, the mud sloshing under their feet. As they passed a river crossing, they saw a beautiful woman, finely dressed, unable to cross because of the mud. Without a word, the older monk simply picked up the woman and carried her to the other side.
the younger monk, seemingly agitated for the rest of their journey, could not contain himself once they reached their destination. He exploded at the older monk. '' How could you, a monk, even consider holding a woman in your arms, much less a young and beautiful one. It is against our teachings. It is dangerous.''
''i put her down at the roadside, ''said the older monk. ''Are you still carrying her?''

There is so much beauty, so much truth and love around us, but we so rarely slow down enough to notice, to appreciate. Sometimes it takes a tragedy or a great loss to remind us to slow down. The same happened with me after my father went....Life has changed for betterment. It has been elevated to a new level. Don't wait for anything like that to happen to you....SLOW DOWN.

From the jawdropping views, the glamorous penthouses to the private sandy beaches and the modern elegance of some of the residences - I have seen some of the most amazing and award-winning architectures and interior designs. When you live in an apartment overlooking a car park, it can get very depressing writing this post...'sigh'.

While some of the houses that I see may always remain on my "when I will win the lottery wishlist", regardless of the shape and size of your own home, we all know that when it comes to carving out your own space - our homes reflect our personality and character and all the different colour, textures and styles that involve.

So even if you are overlooking a car park, that doesn't mean you cannot be inspired to create your own heavenly hideaways. After all, we all start off with white walls....it's just up to us what we do with them!

I had a hectic last week and wrapping it up was more hectic and beautiful as it was Diwali. Yes I did my Diwali cleaning, painting of house, decorating some of the stuff (grandmoms) that reminded me of her...Miss u Daadu & Daadi. Wish you were with us...but I know your blessing are always with us.

आओ सुनाऊँ तुम्हे कहानी दामोदर और प्रीती की,

जो रहते तो थे साथ साथ पर फिर भी थे अंजानो से,

शुरुआत वहां से करते है जब दोनों इक दूजे से मिले,

फिर क्या था मन ही मन में अनेकों प्यार के फूल खिले,

किया फैसला दोनों ने इक दूज के संग रहने का,
और नाम दिया इस रिश्ते को जो कहलाया पवित्र रिश्ता,

शादी के बंधन में बंधकर किया था दोनों ने इक वादा,
हर हाल में साथ निभाने का, रिश्तों को संजोकर रखने का,

वो दोनों इक दूजे से प्यार बेपनाह करते थे,
और संग संग रहने के बस मौक़े ढूँढा करते थे,

ऐसे ही बीते थे कुछ दिन, महीने और कुछ साल,

देखे थे दोनों ने मिलकर ज़िन्दगी के उतार चड़ाव,

इन तेरह सालों में दोनों थे दिया और बाती जैसे,

दो हंसों के जोड़े जैसे साथ वो हरदम रहते ऐसे,

इक दिन दामोदर प्रीती से कुछ कहने घर जल्दी आया,

और प्रीती को लगा की वो उसके लिए तोहफा लाया,

कहा दामोदर ने प्रीती से कहना चाहूँ तुमसे इक बात,

अब तक जो न कही थी मैंने और नहीं है तुमको ज्ञात,

भोलेपन में बोली प्रीती जानू तुम्हे जो बात है कहनी,

मैं भी देना चाहूँ तुमको हमारे प्यार की इक निशानी,

तब दामोदर ने गुस्से से कहा तुम सुन लो मेरी बात,

और बताई प्रीती को काजल से हुई थी मुलाकात,

नहीं समझ पाया मैं खुदको क्यूँ ऐसे खिंचता गया,

जैसे कहीं ढूँढा करता था हर वक़्त मैं उसका ही साया,

प्यार नहीं मैं अब करता हूँ तुमसे सुनलो प्रीती आज,

चाहूं मैं अब घर बसाना सिर्फ और सिर्फ काजल के साथ,

लिखा है सबकुछ मैंने तो इस कागज़ में तुम्हारे नाम,

अलग मुझसे होकर आएगा जो बहुत तुम्हारे काम,

सुनकर यह सब दामोदर से प्रीती रह गयी निशब्द,

समझ नहीं पा रही थी कुछ भी और खड़ी थी वहीं स्तभ्द,

पूछना चाहती थी दामोदर से मन में जो थे सवाल उट्ठे,

पर पलकें भिगोये समेटती रही वह दिल के टूटे हुए टुकड़े,

इससे पहले वो कुछ कहती दामोदर ने कागज़ था दिया,

शादी की सालगिरह पे जो प्रीती ने था कबूल किया,

खोलके देखा जब प्रीती ने था वह दोनों का तलाकनामा,

जो दामोदर ने चाहा था उससे दस्तखत करवाना,

कुछ न कहा बस प्रीती उठ कर गयी अपने कमरे में अन्दर,

खुद को नहीं दिखा पाई कमज़ोर की था सामने दामोदर,

कई घंटे थे बीते और प्रीती जब कमरे से बाहर आई,

देख के दामोदर को उसने शर्त यह अपनी भी सुनाई,

कहा प्रीती ने दामोदर से मंज़ूर मुझे है यह तलाक,

सिर्फ चाहूं मैं कुछ पल कुछ दिन जो बिताओ तुम सिर्फ मेरे साथ,

दामोदर गया मान ये शर्त जो प्रीती ने रक्खी थी,

सोचा इतना तो कर सकता हूँ प्रीती जो मेरे साथ रही,

जब दामोदर ने काजल से कही प्रीती की शर्त वाली बात,

नहीं समझ पाई काजल और कहने लगी यह तो है इक चाल,

चाहे प्रीती तुमको बांधना अनचाहे शादी के बंधन में,

और चल रही है यह चाल जिससे तुम सिर्फ रहो उसके शिकंजे में,

फिर भी दामोदर ने मानी प्रीती की यह अटपटी सी शर्त,

और गया वह घर प्रीती के पास जिसने रख्खा था उपवास,

देखा जब उसने प्रीती को तो बहुत बुझी सी लग रही थी,

जैसे मानो खुद ही अपने दिल से वो जूझ रही थी,

उस रात जब दामोदर कमरे में अपने था सोने गया,

देख के प्रीती को कुछ लिखते वह हैरान सा रह गया,

सोच रहा था मन ही मन क्यूँ प्रीती ने कुछ न कहा,

और अजीब सी शर्त है रखी हासिल उसे इससे होगा क्या,

सुबह उठकर प्रीती ने दामोदर का मनपसंद नाश्ता बनाया,

और बैठ कर दोनों ने ही रोज़ की तरह इक साथ किया,

ऐसे ही हर रोज़ वह बिताते थे वक़्त इक दूजे के साथ,

और दामोदर को याद आ रहा था वह शादी का गुज़रा साल,

आज जब उसने प्रीती को देखा तो दिखाई पड़े सफ़ेद बाल,

याद आया उसको हर लम्हा और हर पुराने बिगड़े हुए हाल,

उस वक़्त सिर्फ प्रीती थी जो साथ उसके थे हुई खड़ी,

न था कोई रिश्ता अपना जब ज़िन्दगी की मार पड़ी,

इतने सालों ने किया था प्रीती को थोडा सा बूढा,

फिर भी उसने कभी नहीं किया था दामोदर को खुद से जुदा,

हर रोज़ प्रीती दामोदर के आने का करती थी इंतज़ार,

यही थी उसके जीवन की पूँजी और ज़िन्दगी का पूरा सार,

धीरे धीरे दामोदर को एहसास हुआ प्रीती थी ख़ास,

प्यार था उसको सिर्फ प्रीती से बाकी सब रिश्ता था बकवास,

उसी वक़्त दामोदर ने काजल से मिलने का फैसला किया,

रहना चाहता था प्रीती के संग पक्का अपना मन था किया,

जब उसने काजल से कहा रहना चाहे वह प्रीती संग,

काजल ने उसके मुंह पर ही किया था दरवाज़ा बंद,

खुश था बहुत दामोदर और लिए उसने खूब सारे फूल,

प्रण ये किया न होगी अब कभी ज़िन्दगी में ये भूल,

जिसके साथ बिताये थे वह तेरह साल जो बीत गए,

कैसे मैं भूला जो वादे मैंने प्रीती संग थे लिए,

किये थे सारे वादे पूरे सिर्फ और सिर्फ प्रीती ने,

कितने सारे दुःख थे दिए जाने अनजाने उसको मैंने,

जैसे ही पहुंचा था वो घर न दिखाई पड़ी उसको प्रीती,

और पुकारा नाम उसका जो सिर्फ थी उसके लिए जीती,

पहुंचा जब वो उस कमरे में जहाँ प्रीती थी बिस्तर पर सोयी,

देख के था वो निशब्द जब उसने सबसे कीमती चीज़ थी खोई,

किया था प्रीती ने खुद को ख़त्म देख के दामोदर को जाते,

समझा था कभी न आएगा दामोदर उसके पास लोट के,

दामोदर का सब कुछ बिखरा सामने बस इक पल में था,

क्या कीमत उसने चुकाई अपना दिल जो लगाया था,

क्यूँ नहीं समझ पाया वो पहले प्यार होता है अपनापन,

जो मिलता है सिर्फ साथी से जिसने देखे संग जीवन के रंग,

सोचो तुम भी कभी इक छोट्टी सी मेरी कही हुई बात को,

जीवनसाथी ही होता है जो हरपाल साथ निभाता है,

चाहे वो हरदम तुमसे न बोले प्यार की भाषा को,

पर होता है वो ही सच्चा साथी जो दिखलाये आइना तुमको,

GOLDEN ESSENCE

A couple visited the Temple Of Golden Buddha, in Bangkok and were shocked to see that the temple itself was very small, probably no larger than thirty feet by thirty feet, but as they entered, they were stunned by the presence of a ten-and-a-half-foot tall, solid gold Buddha. It was quiet an Awesome sight - the kindly gentle, yet imposing solid-gold Buddha smiling down at them.

As they were taking pictures while oohing and ahhing over the statue, they walked over to a glass case that contained a large piece of clay about eight inches thick and twelve inches wide and next to the glass case was a typewritten page describing the history of this magnificent piece of Art.

Back in 1957 a group of monks from a monastery had to relocate a clay Buddha from their temple to make room for the development of a highway through Bangkok. When the crane began to lift the giant idol, the weight of it was so tremendous that it began to crack. Since it was raining also the head monk decided to lower the statue back to the ground and cover it with a large canvas tarp to protect it from the rain.

Later that evening he went to check on the Buddha to see if the Buddha was staying dry. He noticed a little gleam shining back and thought it was strange. As he took a closer look at the gleam of light, he wondered if there might be something underneath the clay. He went to fetch a chisel and a hammer and began to chip away the clay. As he knocked off shreds of clay, the little gleam grew brighter and bigger. Many hours of labor went by before the monk stood face to face with the extraordinary solid-gold Buddha.

It was believed that several hundred years ago the Burmese army was about to invade Thailand (then called Siam). The Siamese monks covered their precious golden Buddha with an outer covering of clay in order to keep their treasure from being looted by the Burmese. Unfortunately this well-kept secret remained intact until that fateful day in 1957.......

We all are like the clay Buddha covered with a shell of hardness created out of fear, and yet underneath each of us is a 'golden Buddha', 'a golden God', or a 'Golden Essence', which is our real self. Somewhere along the way, between the ages of two and nine, we begin to cover up our 'golden essence', our natural self.

I have grown up watching Ma and my Sister caring, loving, understanding, supporting and comforting everyone of us in the family. All the things they give daily, continually, without asking for anything in return. They have made me believe that if a woman is sufficiently ambitious, determined and gifted - there is practically nothing you can't do.
Everyday we are breaking more role barriers , allowing ourselves to think independently about who we are and what success means to us..... prosperity means experiencing balance in life, attaining what we want on mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, and financial levels. Prosperity is the natural result of opening our minds to our creative imaginations and being willing to act on our ideas.
Whether eighteen or eighty - whether single, mother or gran - no matter race or creed - a common bond unites all women. They share the same hopes, fears, joys and sorrows. They understand each other's love, peace and pain. Their bond stretches around the globe nurturing it by power of their love....
I believe that one woman's success can only help another woman's success......
Hence this post is dedicated to all us women who are in their own eyes Domestic Goddess or super moms or just a woman! What more can you ask to be?

A woman is the full circle.

Within her is the power to create, nurture, and transform.

Start With Yourself

When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world. As I grew older and wiser, I discovered the world would not change, so I shortened my sights somewhat and decided to change only my country.

But it, too, seemed immovable.

As I grew into my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt, I settled for changing only my family, those closest to me, but alas, they would have none of it.

And now as I lie on my deathbed, I suddenly realize: If I had only changed my self first, then by example I would have changed my family.

From their inspiration and encouragement, I would have been able to better my country and, who knows, I may have even changed the world.

हर वक्त, हर दम बस ढूँढा करते हैं वो औरों की ख़ामिया,

और नहीं देखते हैं की उनके अन्दर हैं कितनी कमियां,

क्यूँ करते हैं बातें वो जो शूल सी दिल को चुभती हैं,

और लाती हैं रिश्तों में सिर्फ हमेशा के लिए दूरियां.

और ऐसे ही रिश्तों में दूरी या कोई दरार जब आती है,

तो कुछ भी कहने या सुनने की मुश्किल सी हो जाती है.

काश की वो समझें इस दुनिया की उस पुरानी रीत को,

जो बोता है, वही पाता है, तेरा किया तेरे आगे आता है.

माँ के साथ बिताये दिन वो आज भी पलक भिगाते हैं,

जब याद वो लम्हे आते हैं तो खुद को हम वहां पाते हैं.

जहाँ बड़ी बहन से झड़पों को माँ बीच में आ रुक्वाती थी,

जो पड़े कोई मुश्किल हमको माँ पलक झपक सुलझाती थी.

जहाँ अच्छे नम्बर मिलने पर माँ प्यार से सर सहलाती थी,

जहाँ भूख लगे तो माँ हमको पकवान बनाके खिलाती थी,

जहाँ चोट लगे हमको लेकिन उस दर्द को माँ महसूस करे,

और मरहम बनकर आँचल में वो हमको हमेशा छुपाती थी.

और आज जब हम उस मोड़ पे हैं, जहाँ हम भी माँ कहलाते हैं,

और हम भी वही सब करते हैं, जो माँ कभी किया करती थी.

जो पहले माँ की कही बाते हमें अटपटी सी लगती थी,

हम आज उन्ही बातों को अपने बच्चों को सिखलाते हैं.

पर आज वो माँ उस मोड़ पे है जहाँ उसे हमारी ज़रुरत है,

तो क्यूँ हमने अपनी ही एक अलग दुनिया बनाई है.

हम तो थे माँ की पूरी दुनिया, क्यूँ माँ नहीं हमारी दुनिया में,

कहीं अनजाने ही हमने तो माँ को ठेस नहीं पहुंचाई है.

I love to sketch.......

I have made this on watercolour paper sheet. Just tried my hands with charcoal.
Mostly used 2b and 4b pencils and eraser for highlights and ofcourse charcoal.
Haven't blended it much. I was happy with my results on this one....

In this painting I tried something different than what I did uptill now.

I have given her rosy cheeks and the outline of nose has been done only with shading.

I love to experiment and I did.

Thought of sharing with all of you.

It is made on 20 cms x 30 cms unbleached canvas. The sides are also painted.

I have been busy painting logo for what I called our Dreamz Factory.

It has been concieved by me and my sister. So right now the right inputs are required for our baby to be born in a healthy atmosphere and attitude.

It is still inside the womb of our minds and yet to take a shape.

Thank you so much Bonnie for the inspiration you gave me and I tried making this painting from one of your work.....thank you so much.

This is the dreamy side of it. So it had to be moon. It gives us a calm feeling. The feeling of satisfaction, a sense of being loved and belonging. A feeling of composed and calm mother who takes care of her family, children. A feeling of being a child with my children. A feeling of being a complete women. Thats what I felt while painting it. It just got one picture in mind - my sister.

This is Sun - the fiery side. The more aggressive side. The more demanding side. The more outspoken, more passion, a feeling to do something and achieve our dreamz. A feeling of pride in doing something creative and satisfying that urge. A burning feeling of even I can do.

This oil painting is done on a 100% acid free, cotton, unbleached canvas, size 30 cms x 40 cms.

I wanted to highlight the traditional saree of Maharashtrian ladies. Maharashtriyan nauvari (nine yards) Kashta saree or Lugade is a typical indian traditional wear. This style of sari draping is common among the Brahmin women especially in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Hence the best way to do that was by focusing more on the style of draping the saree. Moreover I also wanted to add the Ganesh festival touch to the painting so you can see another form of Ganesha (known as Omkar)... and last but not the least.....I have painted the famous Warli art on this painting.

Warli art is a beautiful folk art of Maharashtra, created by the women of Warli tribe, which is found on the northern outskirts of Mumbai, in Western India. Warli Art was first explored in the early seventies. It is believed that the art originated in the early 10th century AD. Warli people express themselves in vivid styles through paintings which they execute on the walls of their houses. This was the only means of transmitting folklore to a populace not acquainted with the written word. Madhubani. Warli paintings were mainly done by the women folk. The most important aspect of the painting is that it does not depict mythological characters or images of deities, but depicts social life. Pictures of human beings and animals, along with scenes from daily life are created in a loose rhythmic pattern. Warli paintings are painted white on mud walls.

Thats how I have chosen the colour scheme to give an effect of a mud wall painted with warli art.

The famous Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Idol brought from at my sisters house. The thermacoal frame has been designed by me. It was fun to do that. Next year will get more time to do an elaborate one.

About the Lord Ganesh Idol

Shreemanta Dagdusheth Halwai was very famous sweet trader of the past era. He was a very virtuous and righteous man. Shree Datta Mandir placed in budhwar peth, Pune was their residentional Building. During those times in the outbreak of plague Shreemanta Dagdusheth lost his son. Due to this episode he himself and his wife were very depressed and disturbed. During the same time his Guruji Shree Madhavnath maharaj consoled him and advised him to make two idols of God Shree Datta Maharaj and Shree Ganapati.And asked him to worship them and to take care of them like his own son. In future just as offspring brings radiance to his father’s name these idols would do the same for him. And as per his guruji’s advice he made two idols of Shree Datta maharaj and Shree Ganapati, and this very idol is the first idol, now this idol is placed in Aakara Maruti Temple, Shukrawar peth, this idol is worshiped everyday with detailed rituals and rites. Lokmanya Tilak instilled this idol. And at that moment Shreemantha Dagdusheth Halwai, Baburao Godse, Bhausaheb Rangari, Shree Morappasheth ghadve, Narayanrao Bajiwale a.k.a Jadhav, Narayanrao Bhujbal, Ramrao Butler, Ganpatrao Vithuji, Sardar Paranjape, Shivrampant Paranjape, Gopalrao Raikar, Narayanrao Darode and many such people from different spectra were present on this auspicious occasion. And with all the faith and devotion this auspicious tradition was started with the blessings from all these great people.

In the year 1894 Lokmanya Tilak started the Public Ganesh Feastival. In the year 1896-second idol of Shreemantha Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapati was ready and this was celebrated in the festival. During the same period Shreemantha dagdusheth expired. But the locals and his immediate social workers carried the tradition of Public Ganesh Festival forward. In that era Shree Dagdusheth halwai bahuli haud was renowned as public ganapati. This festival was organized and managed by Suvarnayug Youth Club. This idol is instilled at the temple in Pithashree old age Home, Baburao Godse Kondwa.

In the year 1896 the idol got a bit tattered and in the year 1967 they celebrated Amrut jubilee of the Ganapati Bappa. And on these basis instantaneously Head of Suvarnayug Youth Club Shree Pratap Godse, Digambar Rasne, Raghu Kedari, Shankar Suryavanshi, Chandrakant Darode, Umaji Kedari, Prahaladsheth Sharma, Ramakant Vasant Kodre, Kanta Rasne, Dattaray Kedari, Ulhas Shegde, Uttam Gavde, etc activist decided to make a new idol and for that purpose they appointed famous sculptor from Karnataka Shree. Shilpi. They asked him to make a small idol from mud and that was shown to the workers using the projector by Shree Balasaheb Paranjape and got the approval of his co-wokers about the similarity of the new idol with old. Once approved the work on large idol was started. After completing the idol Shree Shilpi offered his prayers to Lord Ganesh on the banks of Sangam River on the day of eclipse. He worshiped Lord Ganesha till the end of the eclipse. He also worshiped the Shree Ganesh Yantra and after that he conducted the rites on the place where he made the idol and with all the devotion he worshipped the Shree Yantar and implanted it the belly of Shree Ganesh. It is said that one must worship Lord Ganesha with all the devotion and faith and must carry all the rites and rituals regularly. Till date this tradition is followed with all the sincerity and so this Ganapati Bappa blesses everyone. Thus, this beautiful idol of Shree Ganesh fulfilling the vows of his worshipers is present in this temple.

We really enjoyed having Lord Ganesha home. During this period all those chants and aarti had a very positive effect on all of us. It gave me immense pleasure and satisfaction to be a part of this ritual which my sister carries every year. May God bless her and everyone of us.

Bringing home Ganesha

Ganesha Chaturthi or Ganesha Festival is a day on which Lord Ganesha, the son of Shiva and Parvati, is believed to bestow his presence on earth for all his devotees. It is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chavithi in Sanskrit, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu, Chavath ( चवथ ) in Konkani and Chathaa (चथा) in Nepali.
It is celebrated as it is the birthday of Lord Ganesha. The festival is observed in the Hindu calendar month of Bhaadrapada, starting on the shukla chaturthi (fourth day of the waxing moon period). Typically, the day usually falls between 20 August and 15 September. The festival lasts for 10 days, ending on Anant Chaturdashi .
Ganesha, the elephant-headed son of Shiva and Parvati, is widely worshipped as the supreme god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune.
While celebrated all over India, it is most elaborate in Maharashtra, Goa (Biggest festival for Konkani people all over the world), Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, and other areas which were former states of the Maratha Empire. Outside India, it is celebrated widely in Nepal which was only Hindu Kingdom in the world and Tamil Hindus in Sri Lanka.

Two to three months prior to Ganesh Chaturthi, life-like clay models of Lord Ganesha are made for sale by specially skilled artisans. They are beautifully decorated & depict Lord Ganesh in various poses. The size of these statues may vary from 3/4th of an inch to over 25 feet.
Ganesh Chaturthi starts with the installation of these Ganesh statues in colorfully decorated homes and specially erected temporary structures mantapas (pandals) in every locality. The pandals are erected by the people or a specific society or locality or group by collecting monetary contributions. The mantapas are decorated specially for the festival, either by using decorative items like flower garlands, lights, etc or are theme based decorations, which depict religious themes or current events. The statues are worshiped with families and friends.
The priest, usually clad in red silk dhoti and shawl, then invokes life into the statue amidst the chanting of mantras. This ritual is the Pranapratishhtha. After this the ritual called as Shhodashopachara (16 ways of paying tribute) follows. Coconut, jaggery, 21 modakas, 21 durva (trefoil) blades of grass and red flowers are offered. The statue is anointed with red unguent, typically made of Kumkum & Sandalwood paste . Throughout the ceremony, Vedic hymns from the Rig Veda, the Ganapati Atharva Shirsha Upanishad, and the Ganesha stotra from the Narada Purana are chanted.
For 10 days, from Bhadrapad Shudh Chaturthi to the Ananta Chaturdashi, Ganesha is worshipped. On the 11th day, the statue is taken through the streets in a procession accompanied with dancing, singing, and fanfare to be immersed in a river or the sea symbolizing a ritual see-off of the Lord in his journey towards his abode in Kailash while taking away with him the misfortunes of his devotees. All join in this final procession shouting "Ganapathi Bappa Morya, Purchya Varshi Laukar ya" (O father Ganesha, come again early next year). After the final offering of coconuts, flowers and camphor is made, people carry the statue to the river to immerse it.

The main sweet dish during the festival is the modak (modagam or modakam in South India). A modak is a dumpling made from rice flour/wheat flour with a stuffing of fresh or dry-grated coconut, jaggery, dry fruits and some other condiments. It is either steam-cooked or fried. Another popular sweet dish is the karanji (karjikaiin Kannada) which is similar to the modak in composition and taste but has a semicircular shape.
Public celebrations of the festival are hugely popular, with local communities (mandalas) vying with each other to put up the biggest statue & the best pandal. The festival is also the time for cultural activities like songs, dramas and orchestra and community activities like free medical checkup, blood donation camps, charity for the poor, etc.
Today, the Ganesh Festival is not only a popular festival - it has become a very critical and important economic activity for Maharashtra. Many artists, industries, and businesses survive on this mega-event. Ganesh Festival also provides a stage for budding artists to present their art to the public. The same holds true for Hyderabad too.

Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated outside India also. In Dubai there are large number of Indians celeberating this festival. Among them is my sister....she brings Ganesha home for 5 days. Yesterday the Idol was brought home from the temple and today was Pranpratishtha.....

Happy Independence Day

Celebrating 62 glorious years of Independence.....

INDIA

The land blessed with a vivid culture and abundance of flora and fauna,

The land renowned for its heritage and history,

The land strengthened by it's economoic balance, and

The land which is mystically unique.

This was inspired from a picture from webshots. I thought was perfect for this day. I have used the Indian flag colours in this painting. I felt this had a look of Mother India. It symbolises the richness of its diversity.

To me, being Indian means progress, co-existence, success, innovation, oppurtunity and responsibility. I feel proud to be Indian because inspite of its imperfections, it is perhaps one of the best places in the world to be from - India is a model for the modern world. Despite being traditional by nature, it embraces change and moves ahead with the modern times. This is one of the reasons why it has been one of the most resilient countries during the economic crisis.

I am proud to be part of this great nation

and

salute its glory on its Independence Day.

I miss living in Mumbai, the noise & chaos, the very loud & colourful presence of hindi movies....the energy, the madness, the warmth, the spirituality, the devotion and dynamism.

And I miss the city even more at this time of the year when during .......

Janmashtami it witnesses the exuberant enactment of the god's childhood endeavors to steal butter and curd from earthen pots beyond his reach.

Janmaashtami, popularly known in Mumbai and Pune as Dahi Handi

is celebrated with enormous zeal and enthusiasm. The handi is a clay pot filled with buttermilk that was positioned at a convenient height prior to the event; the topmost person on the human pyramid tries to break the handi by hitting it with a blunt object, and when that happens, the buttermilk is spilled over the entire group, symbolizing their achievement through unity. Various Handis are set up locally in several parts of the city, and groups of youngsters, called Govinda, travel around in trucks trying to break as many handis as possible during the day.
Many such Govinda Pathaks compete with each other, especially for the handis that dole out hefty rewards. The event, in recent times, has gathered a political flavor, and it is not uncommon for political parties, and rich community groups to offer prizes amounting to lakhs of rupees.
Some of the most famous handis are at Dadar, Mazgaon, Lalbaug and some in Thane a neighboring district of Mumbai and Babu Genu, Mandai in Pune.
Cash and gifts are offered for Govinda troops to participate; for over 4000 Handis in Mumbai, 700 Govinda troops compete for the prizes.

This custom follows the habit of Lord Krishna who used to steal butter in this manner from villagers along with his friends. The reason for this is that Gokul; the place where lord Krishna spent his childhood used to generate a lot of milk and the people used to sell it in Mathura, thus depriving their children from milk and butter which is very essential for young boys and girls.
In South India, Janmashtami or Gokulashtami is celebrated with prayers, devotional renditions and offering of fruits and special prasadams to Lord Krishna. In some houses, a typical setting of 'Gokulam' is arranged with mud images of Devaki, Vasudeva with little Krishna perched in a basket on his head, a cow, besides other things related to Krishna's legends.

This painting is also among one of the faces of a woman....as a mother.

I had reserved this painting for today as it is appropriate to publish it in my post on the day of Lord krishnas Birth.

I have made it on 30 cms x 30 cms acid free canvas. I have added some glitter to the painting...I hope it is visible. I feel it adds more feel to it. If you notice the background has been painted with sponge dipped in flame colour and on that sponge with green colour has been printed. I just tried my hand on this as I wanted the background somewhat like a wall paper look.....

Sorry everyone.....I know I was not regular and have lot of catch up to do but I must share something with you guys. I was browsing the net the other day and I stumbled upon this website - http://www.cyberkerala.com/

I must say it is one of the best site for any information or artworks of our own great painters.

I also got inspired by one of Raja Ravi Vermas painting and I couldn't resist myself....and guys I painted it as a small tribute to this Prince among painters....I am hence dedicating this post to him.

Raja Ravi Varma (1848-1906) was born in Kilimanoor Palace as the son of Umamba Thampuratti and Ezhumavil Neelakandan Bhattathiripad. At the age of seven years he started drawing on the palace walls using charcoal. His uncle Raja Raja Varma noticed the talent of the child and gave preliminary lessons on painting. At the age of 14, Ayilyam Thirunal Maharaja took him to Travancore Palace and he was taught water painting by the palace painter Rama Swamy Naidu. After 3 years Theodor Jenson, a British painter taught him oil painting.
Most of his oil paintings are based on Hindu epic stories and characters. In 1873 he won the First Prize at the Madras Painting Exhibition. He became a world famous Indian painter after winning in 1873 Vienna Exhibition.
Many of his oil paintings are classic and his unique Indian style has later influenced artists and designers worldwide, including me.

Expressive eyes

This is named as Expressive Eyes!

My husband loves collecting artifacts and we have a lot of his collection at home. Out of all those that he has collected over the years, a leather mask of a woman is his favourite, which he bought from Turkey....the moment I saw that I said wow what expressive eyes)...and so I had to add it to dreamz factory as a painting....

I must say he has always been a strong pillar for me and like a true friend always has supported me in everything I do. When I told him about this dream of mine (dreamz factory - anything n everything creative), he was the first one to say why not? Dream bigger than your dreams and I know you can fulfill them. I have faith n confidence in you. Thank you so much Pash for your unconditional love and support all the time...whether it is handling kids, handling the house, me or any problem that I face, i know you are always there with me.
Hence this post I dedicate to you.......love u!!! and thank you for everything

Dreamz factory's 1st Addition

Finally sat down to doing something which I wanted to do from a very long time. I have received emails from all of you - family n friends and you have really encouraged me to take this step forward and make this post.

I am introducing you.....

Different faces of Women - I got inspired with.....

I hope you guys like them too as much as I liked making them.....

This is the 1st one that I have made with Acrylic paints on Acid-free, 100% cotton, unbleached canvas. This painting was inspired from a photograph of a black, Indian bride, whom I thought was so beautiful that I couldn't stop adding her in the faces of women. Lot of people think woman should be fair then only she is beautiful but I must say black is also beautiful. Hence, I thought I will start with this one.

This was also made on canvas and portrays a confident woman of today.

yet another one which I feel is special as this is my daughter's favourite and mine too.....

These kids keep me on my toes. If I am not busy making these paintings,

A friend of mine well educated, from a respectable family, working, fell in love with a guy and married him. It so happened that he lost his job after marriage. He initially looked for another job but slowly gave up. My friend would apply for his jobs, send his resumes but he was just not interested anymore. He started blaming her for his misery. Soon we knew that he had turned to alcohol. He would drink full day and when my friend came back from the office...argue on some petty things with her. This became a regular scene. As she was the only bread earner in the family, she looked into the situation and started putting in extra hours at work as she wanted to do better and moreover distract herself from the daily drama that she had to face after going back home. As she started concentrating more on work front, her superiors started recognising her abilities and very soon she was promoted. She was very happy and thought if she shares this good news with her husband, he will be at least proud of her and would appreciate her for working so hard. But to her surprise he started blaming her for loosing his job, for showing off that she is better than her, he even started abusing her and telling her things that nobody could imagine. He even questioned her character for getting promoted in the office.

Schopenhauer has said it years ago:

' Vulgar people take huge delight in the faults and follies of great men.'

When you are kicked and criticized, remember that it is often done because it gives the kicker a feeling of importance. It often means that you are accomplishing something and are worthy of attention. Many people get a sense of salvage satisfaction out of denouncing those who are better educated than they are or more successful.

There is another person I know who just cannot give compliments to anyone. She tries to put other person down by either critising them or by talking good about herself. These kind of people are so negative in their thoughts. Earlier I use to get worried about this and talk to my sister about it. But as usual my psychologist sister said:

If you are tempted to be worried about unjust criticism.....

Remember that unjust criticism is often a disguised compliment.

Remeber that no one ever kicks a dead dog.

She even made me realise that people are not thinking about you and me or caring what is said about us. They are thinking about themselves - before breakfast, after breakfast, and right on until ten minutes past midnight. They would be a thousand times more concerned about a slight headache of their own than they would about the news of your death or mine.

Even if you and I are lied about, ridiculed, double-crossed, knifed in the back, and sold down the river by one out of every six of our most intimate friends - let's not indulge in an orgy of self-pity.

' Never be bothered by what people say, as long as you know in your heart you are right.'

'If you get your head above the crowd, you're going to be criticised. So get use to the idea.' That helped me tremendously. From that time on I made it a rule to do the very best I could and then put up my umbrella and let the rain of criticism drain off me instead of run down my neck.

A Chance remark, transformed my whole life!

My sister is my biggest critic but also at the same time showers her love on me by advising me on a daily basis about everything....actually she can be a psychologist....

One day we were talking about how mom n dad brought us up, and she said, 'No matter what happened, they always insisted on us being ourselves.' .....

'On being ourselves.'......that remark is what did it!

In a flash, I realised I had brought all the misery on myself by trying to fit myself in a pattern to which I did not conform.

I can say she has always told me right things at the right time!

I changed overnight!

I started being myself. I tried to make a study of my own personality. Tried to find out what I was. Studied my strong points. I learned all I could about blogging. I can give this credit to my neighbour who introduced me the idea. But I had forgotten that untill I received a mail from a friend to follow some creative n excellent blogs. And so.... I started one myself.

I humbly thank everyone for inspiring me in their own way!!

I reached out to make friends. Each time I write my posts, I gain little courage. It will take a while - but today I have more happiness than I ever dreamed possible. I soon will graduate in making my own designs, sketches, organisers (actually it is called Dreamz factory - where I dare to dream and make it happen, anything n eveything I can). In rearing my children, I am also teaching them the lesson I had to learn from some bitter experiences.

NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, ALWAYS BE YOURSELF!

So Instead of focussing on all the things I couldn't do, I began to rejoice in everything I could.

Here is the way a poet - the late Douglas Malloch - said it:

If you can't be a pine on the top of the hill, Be a scrub in the valley - but be

The best little scrub by the side of the rill;

Be a bush, if you can't be a tree.

If you can't be a bush, be a bit of the grass,

I have grown up watching Ma and my Sister caring, loving, understanding, supporting and comforting everyone of us in the family. All the things they give daily, continually, without asking for anything in return. They have made me believe that if a woman is sufficiently ambitious, determined and gifted - there is practically nothing you can't do.
Everyday we are breaking more role barriers , allowing ourselves to think independently about who we are and what success means to us..... prosperity means experiencing balance in life, attaining what we want on mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, and financial levels. Prosperity is the natural result of opening our minds to our creative imaginations and being willing to act on our ideas.
Whether eighteen or eighty - whether single, mother or gran - no matter race or creed - a common bond unites all women. They share the same hopes, fears, joys and sorrows. They understand each other's love, peace and pain. their bond stretches around the globe nurturing it by power of their love....
I believe that one woman's success can only help another woman's success......
Hence this blog is dedicated to all us women who are in their own eyes Domestic Goddess or super moms or just a woman! What more can you ask to be?
